Handmade iPod/iphone speaker dock

If you're looking to get yourself a pair of speakers that look different from your typical tower/rectangular shaped speakers, then this iPod and iPhone speaker that's pictured above might do the trick.

As you can imagine, the weird shape of the pipes play an important role in the delivery and quality of the sound, as it was designed that way on purpose. The central part of the dock houses an amplifier that the designed claims will be able to put out 15 watts per channel. The speakers use 2-inch full range drivers that are housed in the specially constructed pipes, supposedly capable of providing "exceptional" sound, delivering full stereo sound with solid lows and perfect highs.

The designer was pretty honest about the sound though, and claims that it will not be replacing your home theatre system anytime soon, but should provide pretty decent sound for general listening around the house.

At the moment there is only one unit available from the designer's Etsy page, which will cost you $299. Subsequent orders will be built-to-order with a two week construction time, so if you have the spare funds and you'd like a set of speakers that are somewhat unconventional, better hurry before someone else snaps them up!

Sonos S3 speakers get leaked on Amazon

For those unfamiliar with the Sonos brand, they are a company that produces relatively high-end speaker systems, with their Sonos S5 speaker dock for the iPod costing a pretty steep $399, and their Sonos 100 speakers which went for about $678 for the whole setup. They are also known for creating wireless speaker systems that are said to work phenomenally when set up, which is why when their latest pair of speakers, the Sonos S3, was leaked on Amazon, it caused quite a stir.

The product has since been removed from Amazon, and we're not sure if this is an accidental leak or one that was done on purpose to generate hype and excitement. Either way, not much was revealed in the leak apart from the fact that the Sonos S3 will have streaming, internet radio as well as hi-fi capabilities.

Some have speculated about the number of drivers that the S3 will bring to the table, and since the S5 sported five drivers, logically the name "S3" should imply that the speakers will be featuring three drivers instead. As the screenshot above seems to indicate, the Sonos S3 will cost $300, which is a tad cheaper than their S5. No word on when we can expect to see the S3 go up for pre-order again, although if we had to guess, we would say it shouldn't be too far off.

If you're thinking that these are just more iPad/iPhone/iPod speaker docks, you would be wrong, because this is actually a CD player as well, that can double as an iPad/iPhone/iPod speaker dock. It was recently unveiled by JVC Victor and it is said to go on sale in Japan towards the end of July or early August, although no price has been mentioned.

Although the CD player is currently only available for the UX-VJ5 model, the UX-VJ3 features similar specs, minus the CD player of course, and both are said to be able to accommodate an iPad and an iPhone/iPod. Both devices are also said to feature Video Out, PC In, Audio In, an FM/AM Radio tuner, a 2x15W out put, as well as a USB port on the UX-VJ5, that is supposed to let you rip your CDs into MP3 format and then transferred to an external USB device, such as a flash drive or external hard disk.

We're not sure why anyone would need to dock an iPad and an iPhone/iPod at the same time. We're also guessing that when docked it would allow the device to charge, so perhaps it's just a convenient solution to charge two devices simultaneously. Other than that, we'll admit that they do look pretty sleek.

Would You Pay $650 For This Wooden Audio Board?

If you've recently spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for an amazing home stereo system, perhaps an additional $650 won't seem like a lot. $650 for a piece of wood that is. This piece of wood by Japanese home stereo company Kripton is said to help reduce vibrations coming out of your equipment, which at the same time improves the performance. It is also said to minimize electromagnetic noise.

The Kripton AB-3200 which is pictured above, comes weighing in at a hefty 33 lbs and can support gear up to about 330 lbs. It's priced at ¥35,700, about $442. The bigger and more substantial AB-5200 weighs in at 52 lbs and will set you back a cool ¥52,500 ($650). Both models are made from natural woods which include teak and rosewood, with a dense MDF wood substrate providing the heft and stability, and will be available in both black and natural finishings.

We have no way of knowing if this $650 piece of wood will actually improve your speaker systems but we're guessing audiophiles should be more familiar with this issue, and to be fair this does seem like an audiophile accessory.
